Chez Papa French restaurant @ Taman Maju Jaya

We finally had dinner at Chez Papa. I've heard so much about this restaurant so I was very excited to visit the place. It's also been ranked as one of the best restaurants in Johor.

Starters: Foie Gras & Salad

Main course: Lamb, steak & chicken chop

Desserts: Creme brulee, chocolate mouse & crepe

Chezz Papa is located at:
38 and 40 Jalan Jaya, Taman Maju Jaya, 80400
Johor Bahru
(5 minutes from Woodlands Checkpoint)

For the four of us, the dinner cost ~RM630 (including a bottle of house wine, soft drinks & latte). The food was great (foie gras was the best dish), the service was very very slow during our visit. Though this is relatively cheaper than Singapore french restaurants, it is quite pricey for Johor's standard. It's nice to visit once in a while, but not every weekend.

P/S: Don't park your car underneath the big trees, or you'll have lots of "presents" from the birds :)

Traders Hotel Opening by End of 2012

Here's a recent picture we took of the Puteri Harbour's Traders Hotel development:

The four-storey 283-room Traders Hotel is a Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts operated hotel.

Besides Traders Hotel, Puteri Harbour waterfront development area also include an indoor theme park, a family entertainment centre and a 100,000-square-foot retail centre. Puteri Harbour will house a water transport terminal and three marinas in the near future.

The 60,000-square-foot indoor theme park will feature world-renowned and popular children’s characters in three main areas: Hello Kitty Town, showcasing Hello Kitty and friends by Sanrio; the Little Big Club featuring HIT Entertainment's Thomas and Friends, Barney, Bob the Builder, Pingu and Angelina Ballerina; and a themed family restaurant by popular local cartoonist, Lat (per press release from Shangrila).

Excited!!!

Angry Birds fever continues

I've been seeing angry birds cakes, bags, toys, shirts...you name it, everywhere, especially in MY. I thought this tops it all. I think we saw this in AEON/Sutera Mall. Have a great Sunday!

More Condo Project Signed for Iskandar

"Medini Iskandar Malaysia Sdn Bhd and Qingdao Zhuoyuan Investment Holding's Square Stone Holdings Sdn Bhd to build high-end condominium with an estimated gross development value (GDV) of RM2.6bil.

The high-rise property proposed to be known as Medini International starts from an average price of RM750 psf targeting buyers from Singapore, China, Malaysia, Japan and Korea". Read more on the Star article.

It definitely feels like the Iskandar bubble is growing bigger, prices are sky rocketing and close to matching KL prices. Let's hope prices do not go too crazy!

About 5,000 Singaporeans call Johor home, WOW!

I found this newly published article on The New Paper:

About 5,000 Singaporeans now call Johor home, estimates the Johor-Singapore Community Care Association, a newly formed group that aims to champion the interests of Singaporeans living across the Causeway.

The New Paper interviewed 3 families who shared their stories about moving to Johor and it's similar story one would hear from most of our neighbours (including us). We feel very lucky to have bought our house at the right time and even luckier to have great neighbours.

It is true that Johor is definitely not as safe as Singapore (not many places in this world are), but as long as we are prudent, vigilant and look after each other in the community, the probability of incidents will be reduced. The article also mentioned about Johor-Singapore Community Care Association (JSCA) which is formed to act as voice to speak to authorities for security concerns in Johor. This association can be contacted at contact@johor-singapore.com.

Despite rising crime, S'poreans don't regret buying Johor properties

Breaking news from Straits Times today:

We should check out the The Lido Boulevard project!

Looking for home for rescued puppy

We found this puppy trapped in the drain behind our house couple of nights ago. The puppy is ~1-2 months old and we are not sure of it's breed, but it is very cute and looks like a teddy bear. We are checking to see if the puppy belongs to any house, but in the meantime we are also trying to look for new home in case if the puppy is stray. Unfortunately the puppy will grow to be too big for our chihuahua. Please msg me if you would be keen to adopt or if you know of any friends who would be open to adoption. We are only looking for dog lovers. Thanks a lot!
