Here we go again. Renovation part 2.

Sorry for being M.I.A for a while. Life has been hectic lately as we kick started stage 2 renovation in our house. We are now back to living in 1 room and without kitchen and TV. I feel a lot more confident that stage 2 will be way smoother and less painful than what we went through in stage 1, now that we have found a reliable designer contractor. We are redoing quite a number of cabinets & rewiring work done by previous contractors. We are expecting to finish stage 2 in 3rd week of October, so I am super looking forward to that! Stage 3 is exterior and we'll start thinking about it in Oct.

Renovation aside, I've also had some interesting time with our car. Besides getting a speeding ticket & demerit points (watch out for your speed on AYE near exit 20-22 towards Tuas) and forking SGD4K for car repair, life's generally good :)

Very much looking forward to October!!!

  4. Yea, last year we had bad experienced with our contractor too. Make sure the description stated are in detail. Don't let the contractor says that he will give you another contract stating in detailed. You will end up getting over charged. We didn't have a strong prove on what we had discuss verbally. Well, his quotation is not cheap yet got overcharged. Lesson learned.

If possible, don't hire a contractor to do all the renovation work for your house. That was our mistake, the job getting worst at the end of the day. Even we had lowered our expectation.

Hope no one gets a contractor that we got from Taman Universiti area.

He also told us that he did a few projects in Horizon Hills. Hope they are not going through the same thing we did.

    1. Hi John, thanks for sharing. I have very low tolerance for contractors nowadays due to the bad experience we have. Let's see how we go with this round, wish me luck!

  5. Hi Erika, guess more headaches and mess in house for your continued renovation. Im doing my place in Adda heights too. I use zest design and construction as my contractor. His name is victor, 0189057678. So far seems ok. Easy going and not too money orientated. Usually overlooks small changes and easy to compromise.I have posted some pictures on my blog sandyswee@wordpress.com

    1. Hi Sandy, thanks for sharing. Renovation is a nightmare. We've added quite a no of items to the list so right now, we're looking at another delayed finish date of around 19th Jan 2013. Our contractor is reasonable and such a perfectionist, which is good coz he produces high quality work, but the trade-off is that the process takes a lot longer than we anticipated. Well, i can only keep pushing for completion for the new year. All the best for your renov! Happy holiday and happy new year!

  6. Hi Erika,

Thanks for your very useful information about MY contractors & your home renovation. We're new established design & build + project management firm in Johor which would deal with contractors and of course we've ever faced the same. We do want to advise here that MY contrctors are mostly need full attention on site supervision or you may need a set of extensive detailed design drawing as their guides. We even do 3d models for their better understanding of design intents. Some drawing examples can be seen on our FB. Hope they're useful & helpful for you all.

    1. Hi Patrick thanks for reading my blog. Its definitely very difficult to find good contractors here. Our 2nd contractor however, has been good, very hands on and has done great job. He`s responsible and trustworthy, so I am very glad to have found by him.
