Singapore-KL high-speed rail link back on the drawing board | Bangkok Post: business

Everyone's probably heard of the SG-KL high speed rail link. I so cannot wait to  hear more details on this. Let's just hope that the train will also have a stop in Iskandar region :)

  1. It would seem that Nusajaya is the favoured location for the High Speed Rail stop as articulated by IRDA's CEO...

    1. Hi Mr Wang, tax for your comments. I think it makes sense to have a stop in nusajaya since this is an area of a lot of investment, so let's see :-)

  2. Hi Erika,

I started reading your blog in Jan... i have been contemplating a move to S'pore (currently in Dubai) for a few years - it's just me and i work from home mostly - I had heard about the Iskander region a while back and MM2H etc. but never really thought of them. So in researching the 'move' i somehow stumbled onto the idea of living in Malaysia and still having business, entrepass from spore, and thanks to google got to your blog. I read through the whole of it in a day or so! :) yup not a lot to do, great story... think you guys have made a great move and put in a lot of effort in your home - it shows!

Was worried why you hadn't posted for a while :) - congratulations on the little one, i wish you both all the best. Funny how the interweb works and connects people that don't know each other and have never met...

I had a few questions, if you don't mind. I own in Dubai, and as one of the worlds newest 'freehold' markets we have lived through the pains of its 'evolution'. I got extremely lucky and am in a terrific building by a decent developer and over the past four years we have been working on our 'owners association', budgets, etc. yet the system here is still very much broken.

How do things work in JB? From what i gather, your developers are not very cooperative and you are in the early stages of forming home owners association?

Is the legal system geared towards this in Malaysia? (In Dubai it is not).

Your properties are freehold? Are they any different from other Malaysian properties? or do Malaysians have any preferential treatment in the market?

Generally speaking how is the housing market, i have not actually started to look, or even decided on anything, just curious as i saw a lot of varied pricing online. Say from when you bought to now the price differential?

The differential between property being built by developer, and secondary market?

Are there generally mortgage buyers or cash buyers?

Is the secondary market active or rare to find homes up for resale?

I'm just curious; please feel free to disregard anything if it seems too nosy! Am hoping to visit Singapore in around June and will also try to swing by JB...

    Regards,
    Adnan

    1. Hi Adnan thanks for reading my blog. Foreigners are allowed to buy freehold properties but minimum purchase is 1m ringgit. Freehold is the preferred right of course. For each development there are bumi lots, I.e only available for Malaysian Malays. Foreigners can secure home loans here too, I believe you can get up to 70% loan now.

  4. Hi, Thanks to Erika's blog, here's where I got started too :) Currently, in JB, the new developments are very popular these days. Yes, there are properties in the secondary market. If you are keen on new developments, always go for a reputable developer. Go on the ground to see for yourself exactly where the properties will be located. It's good to check out the show houses too to get a feel of the layout. Some developers will even liaise with a few banks to get you a quote on the loan. If you are looking, it's good to go check out a few places, see many before you decide. Happy shopping
