Very bad traffic at Singapore Tuas checkpoint every day in past 2 weeks

Life's back at work has been quite tough, added by the stress of daily commute in past couple of weeks. Traffic is usually pent up all the way til end of 2nd link bridge in morning (7.50-9 am), which means it takes an average 50 minutes to 1 hour just to clear the bridge. Traffic leaving Singapore at 5.45-6pm is also bad with queuing time of average 30 minutes. Hence, daily travel time has been averaging 3.5 hours per day :(

Let's just hope that things will improve this week....argh!!!!

Have good Sunday everyone,
Erika

  1. I agree. It's taxing and exhausting. I've been searching the internet for the cause of the jam these past few weeks but found none. Your post didn't help much but it offered me abit of comfort knowing we share the same woe.

    1. Hi Dipz, fortunately things seem to have improved since Thursday, so fingers crossed, let's hope it stays that way next week. Have a great Sunday.

  2. Hi Erika,

One theory I heard from my colleague is school holiday in Singapore.
    - The huge jam just started when the school holiday begins
    - People who are living in Johor Bahru(working in Singapore) and also attending their child to Singapore school now don't need to enter Singapore in the early morining. So distributed traffic throughout the morning is now packed in the late morning time.

But this theory can not explain
    - According to my colleague, who are using the Woodland, there's no big difference in Woodland
    - Why there's another huge jam in the evening?
    - Why there was no such huge jam in the same season of last year?

Hope we can develop another good theory.

    Kind Regards,

    SeongWon

    1. Hi Seong Won, nobody knows the exact reasons. I called the Tuas checkpoint a couple of times, both times they told me that they're doing their best based on manpower available. An officer said it's because of school holiday, I don't think this makes sense because if it is, not all counters were opened. Things seem to have improved and gone back to normal since last Thursday, hopefully it'll stay this way next week. Fingers crossed!

  3. Just came across your blog. The jams now are even worse on 2nd Link on the Singapore immigration side, starts as early as 6.30am. Likely due to the recent immigration offences. I also noticed the ICA officers trying to create an extra lane by diverting traffic out to the lane departing from Singapore. This is making things worse IMHO

    1. There has to be a reason for this - its total madness

  4. I agree! For the past 2 months I observed the frustrating traffic jam into singapore. I rarely encountered traffic jam that starts before the bridge until now. I didn't notice any extra security enforcement that would have been the cause of the traffic. Even before, there's been a bottleneck before entering the border so it might not be the reason for it. A lot of my neighbors have moved back to Sg because of this.

  6. July 9 2014- jams at causeway HAVE NOT subsided. I live 7 min from Malaysia chkpoint and with bus jams I take 1.5 hours to reach woodlands. I used to leave my house at 7 to reach work at 9. Now I have to leave an hour earlier? Screw the authorities. Can't they make their checks more efficient and faster and open all lanes?
