Best steak in Johor

Loveeeeeee Grill Bar Steakhouse! The place was closed in our 1st attempted visit and we finally get to eat there at our 2nd visit.

I was looking for rainbow trout but i couldnt see it in the menu so i ended up ordering Wagyu steak with BMS 5...had no idea what that meant until that dinner. BMS stands for the beef marbling standard, thr higher the BMS index, the higher grade hence more expensive the steak is. It was my first time eating wagyu steak and i must say that it was so soft and tender, so yummy!

Everyone ordered steak as main course but some had steak Dianne and others ordered fillet Mignon. Steak diane was about 120RM, wagyu steak 110RM and fillet mignon RM60.

We also had starters and appetizers. I had Iobster bisque as starter and creme brulee as dessert. For the three of us, dinner cost RM539. Expensive for Johor, but cheap for Singapore standard. Unfortunately, i was too excited and forgot to take pictures of starter and the steaks!

The restaurant has a cosy and nice atmosphere, service was good. I would definitely like to go back there.

The restaurant is always full, so best to call and make reservations a day or two before planned dinner.
Njoy!

19-Oct: Went back for another steak dinner. We tried the special of the day "Steak for 2" Prime Rib dinner (900 gram, cost RM307), it was yummy. Dinner cost RM508 in total, including starters, rib, drinks and dessert for 2 people. I still loveee the wagyu, will stick to wagyu next time!

Took picture of everything but the prime rib (arghhh - mommy's brain!)

Chez Papa French restaurant @ Taman Maju Jaya

We finally had dinner at Chez Papa. I've heard so much about this restaurant so I was very excited to visit the place. It's also been ranked as one of the best restaurants in Johor.

Starters: Foie Gras & Salad

Main course: Lamb, steak & chicken chop

Desserts: Creme brulee, chocolate mouse & crepe

Chezz Papa is located at:
38 and 40 Jalan Jaya, Taman Maju Jaya, 80400

For the four of us, the dinner cost ~RM630 (including a bottle of house wine, soft drinks & latte). The food was great (foie gras was the best dish), the service was very very slow during our visit. Though this is relatively cheaper than Singapore french restaurants, it is quite pricey for Johor's standard. It's nice to visit once in a while, but not every weekend.

P/S: Don't park your car underneath the big trees, or you'll have lots of "presents" from the birds :)

Taman Seri Tebrau Hawker Centre, Popular Seafood Eating spot for Singaporean tourists

Dubbed as the best Malaysian hawker centre in Johor, Taman Seri Tebrau hawker centre is extremely popular with Singapore day tourists and the hawker centre has about four dozen stalls selling local delights from Penang fried kuay teow, yong tau foo, prawn mee, dumpling noodles, laksa, chicken rice to various BBQ seafood and more. Food is extremely cheap. Since we were not very hungry, we ordered small amount of food, fried kuetiao, satays, dumpling soup and stir fried green vegie. My fried kuetiao cost only RM4 and was yummy. I liked the dumpling soup and stir fried vegie, but satays were just OK for me (I much prefer Indonesian satays).

This hawker centre is 5 minutes walk from KSL City Mall. There are many other shop restaurants nearby so it's definitely worth checking out.

Italiano @ Rosmarino

Hi Everyone, I hope you are having a great weekend. Apologies for being M.I.A for quite a while, my work has been super hectic and I've finally found some time to post new articles.

Couple of articles to share on food, yummy food :) Couple of weeks ago, we went to an Italian restaurant, Rosmarino, which has been called as best Italian food in Johor by some Tripadvisor members. Though I have not tried all Italian restaurants in Johor, I find that Rosmarino is the best that we've had (even compared to Gianni's).

For 4 of us, we ordered home made pasta with crab meat (cooked similar to aglio olio style), chicken (forgotten the name :), cod fish, caprese, salad, tiramisu, chocolate mousse and panna cotta desserts as well as drinks. Everything was very nice, except for cod fish which my friend found was a bit fishy. My favourite is the home made pasta, it was delicious. The dinner cost ~RM300 which is quite reasonable given the amount of stuff we ordered. Food was very good, ambience was nice; and with nice company of friends, it was a very enjoyable relaxing evening.

Overall, I like this restaurant and I love the pasta dish. I recommend giving this place a shot, just skip the fish and stick to pastas and pizzas which are the specialties of the restaurant.

Rosmarino is located at 123 Jalan Damai | Taman Sri Setia, Johor Bahru, Malaysia.

A Trip to Kukup Fishing Village

We went to Kukup Fishing Village a few weekends ago. Kukup is a small fishing village in district of Pontian, Johor, which is quite popular with Singaporeans. It's filled with seafood restaurants which are built on stilts over water. Besides seafood restaurants, there is an international ferry terminal with ferries scheduled for Tanjung Balai Indonesia. If you search for Kukup Fishing Village in Google, you will also find listings of tours packages which offer 2D1N stay.

We found the driving direction in OneMotoring's forum:
- From Tuas checkpoint, continue on LebuhRayah highway and take exit to Gelang Patah.
- Once in the exit, follow a slip road to your left. Drive until you reach a T-Junction (a left and right turn) and turn right.
- After you have turned right at the junction, it is quite a distance before you reach another T Junction (a left and right turn). Turn left and after about 45 minutes - at about 80Kmh, you will reach the a Cross junction. Going Straight would be Pontian Kechil, Turn right would bring you to JB. So you turn left to KuKup.
- Before you reach Pontian Kechil, you would pass by a town called Pekan Nenas (Pineapple Town) just follow the main road until you reach the Cross-Junction.
- Up until this stage, you can look out for signs pointing to Kukup or Kukup Golf Resort.
- Once you have turned left, just drive for about another 30 minutes at 80kmph. you should then reach an archway that says - Welcome to Kukup.
There are clear and easy to follow signs so it is pretty easy to get to Kukup.

Below are some pictures that we took of the area:

We had a small lunch at one of the restaurants (too bad I can't remember the restaurant's full name), it had blue frame and is the first restaurant if you look to the left when you exit from the ferry terminal. We ordered lobsters, steamed prawns and vegetable. The lobsters are actually balmain bugs (that's what they're called in Oz). The food is quite nice, but there was a little bit too much MSGs on the lobsters. Though it was priced OK, I didn't think that it was that cheap. Overall, it's still a good place to go for tourists and expats, so I would recommend checking it out for the experience. You can also take a boat ride to check out the area which we did not have the time to do unfortunately. I was happy to have checked out a Johor's popular destination and it was a pleasant relaxing trip.
